Students seeking to amend their gender to be recorded as Male, Female, or Intersex / Unspecified, must provide one of the following documents to Flinders Connect:

  • A statement from a Registered Medical Practitioner or a Registered Psychologist;
  • A current passport;
  • Birth certificate; or
  • Gender Recognition Certificate or recognised details certificate provided by a State or Territory office or Births, Deaths and Marriages.

Documentation must be provided as original or certified copies to Flinders Connect in the Student Hub, Level 0 of the Central Library or scanned and certified electronic documents can be submitted via Ask Flinders.

For more information and sample text for statements from a Registered Medical Practitioners or a Registered Psychologist, see the Australian Government Guidelines on the Recognition of Sex and Gender.

Note that Intersex / Unspecified gender must not be used as a substitute for determining gender information and is only to be used in genuine circumstances.

You may choose to be known by your preferred name at the university, without documentation.  See can I be known by my preferred name at Flinders for more information.

If you need to update your ID card after you have changed your gender on our records, please email a passport style photo (colour photo of your head and shoulders, light background with hats, sunglasses and face coverings removed) to askflinders@flinders.edu.au and we will post a new ID card out to you at no charge. Please ensure your address details are correct in the Student System.
