What do I do if I have an invalid or unverified USI?
The personal details you provide in your enrolment must match the personal details you have given to the USI Registry. You need to make sure your personal details (First Name, Given/Middle Name, Family Name and Date of Birth) recorded on your enrolment appear exactly as it appears on your USI record and your verifiable ID.
For example,
- if your full legal name is ‘Jessica Smith’ on your USI record and you use ‘Jess Smith’ in your enrolment, a mismatch will occur.
Please note to access a Commonwealth supported place and/or a HELP loan your USI details need to match and successfully validate with the information held by Flinders University.
Why your name matters
If the name on your enrolment does not match your USI account, it will prevent your USI from being verified. If your USI is unable to be verified, you will not be able to hold a Commonwealth supported place and/or have access to a HELP loan. An invalid or unverified USI will also prevent you from having access to your academic results and graduation. We recommend when you complete your enrolment, use the same name recordings as your USI, Tax File Number (TFN) and myGov account.
Naming recording guidelines
If your USI record displays first name, middle name, and family name, or first name and family name, or a single name, your enrolment record at Flinders needs to reflect that.
Examples of name recordings:

If you need to update the details on your USI record
You can update your personal and contact details through the USI Student Portal. If you make a change to your personal/contact details on your USI record, you will need to also update your ATO (TFN) record, myGov account and your Flinders record.
What are personal and contact details?
Personal details are
- your name (first/middle/last name or single name as it appears on your identification (ID))
- preferred name
- date of birth
- country of birth
- town/city of birth
- gender.
Contact details are:
- mobile
- home phone
- postal address.
You can choose to share your USI information with Flinders University to help resolve a mismatch by following the below instructions.
How to share your USI
- Log in to your USI account via the Student Portal.
- Select ‘Provide Your USI’.
- Choose:
- Email your USI. (as this email comes directly from the USI Registry, it can be accepted as certified for USI matching requirements)
- Enter usi@flinders.edu.au
- Press Send
