The HDR Thesis Rules set out the requirements for including publications in your thesis for a PhD by Prior Published Work.

You can include co-authored papers provided:

  • you are the major contributing author
  • you include a clear statement in prose at the front of the relevant chapters, describing the percentage contribution of each author to the work
  • you have obtained permission from your co-authors to include their work in your thesis, by completing a Co-authorship approval form.

Publications where you are not the major contributing author may be included if clear justification for the publication’s inclusion is provided and the HDR Thesis Rules are met. However, it is preferable to include such publications as appendices, rather than in the main body of the thesis.
