“Revise and Resubmit” is recommendation D in a list of possible recommendations that an examiner can choose when reviewing your thesis. It recommends:
that the degree not be awarded but the student be permitted one opportunity to revise and resubmit the thesis for re-examination. Upon re-examination, recommendation D cannot be utilised again.
If your examiners recommend a “Revise and Resubmit” outcome, you will need to re-enrol in your degree and make substantial changes to your thesis, based on the examiners’ feedback. Your thesis submission due date will be set by the Dean of Graduate Research, in consultation with you and your supervisor. Your thesis will be re-examined by the same two examiners (if possible).
If you receive a D recommendation from one examiner, and a different result from the other examiner, the University Higher Degrees by Research Committee will decide the outcome. See: What if the examiners of my HDR thesis don’t agree with each other? If the Committee determines a D outcome, your thesis will be re-examined by two new examiners.
Note that a thesis may only be resubmitted for examination once.
If you receive a “Revise and Resubmit” outcome, the HDR Exams team will contact you and guide you through the process.
