The HDR Thesis Rules set out the requirements for including publications in your Higher Degree by Research (HDR) thesis.
Your own publications, or significant sections of them, can be included in the body and narrative of the thesis, or submitted as appendices, provided:
- they contribute to the overall theme of the work, are conceptually linked to the chapters before and after, and follow a logical sequence
- they are formatted in the same way as the other chapters, or presented as clearly legible reprints
- published and unpublished sections are clearly differentiated and referenced
- unnecessary repetition is avoided.
If co-authored papers are included, a clear statement in prose is required at the front of the relevant chapters, describing the percentage contribution of each author to the work, from conceptualisation to realisation and documentation.
