Some postgraduate courses offer commonwealth supported places and full-fee paying places which allows either fee type to be deferred to a HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP loan respectively.
‘Commonwealth supported’ means the cost of your study is shared between the Australian Government and you. You are required to pay a student contribution amount and the Australian Government pays the balance of your course costs.
‘Fee-paying’ means the cost of your study is not shared between the Australian Government and you. You are required to pay the total amount of your course costs.
If you wish to pay your fees upfront, it is suggested you apply for the Commonwealth Supported course (for example SATAC Code: 2GC122) and add as a lower preference the Fee-paying course (for example SATAC Code: 2GC522). The course costs for the commonwealth supported place are normally lower than the course costs of the fee-paying places.
Please note, if the number of applicants for Commonwealth supported places exceeds the number of places available, eligible applicants will be ranked based on their Grade Point Average (GPA).
Offers for Commonwealth Supported places are normally made after the application closing date. Full-Fee paying places are normally offered on a continuous basis, so please be aware that if you receive an offer for a Full-Fee paying place, you will still be considered for a Commonwealth Supported place if you have placed this as a higher preference in your SATAC application.
