You do not have to start repaying your accumulated HELP debt until your income is above the minimum threshold, which is $51,550 in the 2023-2024 tax year.
To check your current outstanding HELP balance, you can:
- telephone the ATO on 13 28 61
- log in to myGov, follow the links to the ATO and select ‘Tax’, then 'loan accounts' from the menu.
